Germany should not make hasty decisions to send heavy weapons to Ukraine and make independent efforts in this direction, German Chancellor Olaf said in an interview with Bild am Sonntag Scholz.

Thus, he responded to criticism from the leader of the opposition CDU party, Friedrich Merz, and the statement adopted by the majority of Bundestag deputies about the need to supply Ukraine with heavy weapons.

“I quickly make decisions and coordinate them with our allies. I find the hasty action and independent efforts of Germany dubious, — he said.

During the interview, Scholz also noted that Germany will not supply Western-made battle tanks to Ukraine until the United States and other allies do so, the newspaper writes.

The opposition accuses Scholz of « cowardice” in connection with his cautious position on military assistance to Ukraine, the newspaper notes. “It's hesitation, it's procrastination, it's anxiety,” — the leader of the opposition CDU, Friedrich Merz, spoke about Scholz.

Scholz, commenting on these words, told the publication that he was not offended by such statements. “I'm not so scared to be impressed by such accusations,” — he said.

Criticized the Chancellor and Kyiv. Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk called his policy “sluggish” and compared with what Angela Merkel did: “wait and see, and then make a decision” or not. What is missing is imagination and courage»

In an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Scholz's colleague in the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), Bundestag chairman Berbel Bas, spoke out in favor of ex-Chancellor Gerhard Schröder leaving or expelling him from the party because of his “pro-Russian” position.

“It is quite clear that Gerhard Schroeder does not help the SPD, but, on the contrary, harms it”,— she said (quoted by TASS).

She also said that applications to start the procedure for expelling Schröder from the party had already been received.

Schröder was German chancellor in 1998–2005. Now he heads the board of directors of Rosneft. and was nominated to the board of directors of Gazprom. At the end of April, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner called for an end to state support for the former chancellor because of his ties to Russia. “It's no longer conceivable to me that his office is funded by taxpayers,” — said the head of the Ministry of Finance of Germany.
